The Communities South of Boston Massachusetts-the “South Shore”

South of Boston, there are 27 communities that define the area known
as the “South Shore” of Massachusetts. According to 2002 market
statistics compiled by the Massachusetts Association of Realtors
(MAR), the South Shore region represented the hottest real estate
market in all of Massachusetts, boasting an increase of 16.8% in the
average selling price of single family homes and a percentage change
of +21.5% in the average selling price of condominiums, as compared
to regional property sales prices in 2001.

Beginning at Quincy Massachusetts to the north and running south
along the Atlantic coastline through Weymouth, Hull, Hingham,
Cohasset, Scituate, Marshfield, Duxbury, Kingston and Plymouth to the
Cape Cod canal, the South Shore region turns inland to include
Lakeville, Middleboro, Carver, Plympton, Halifax, the Bridgewaters,
Brockton, Whitman, Hanson, Pembroke, Hanover, Norwell, Rockland,
Abington and Braintree. The tremendous popularity of the South Shore
area spills over to embrace the communities of Bourne at Sagamore
Beach to the south, Raynham and Easton to the west, and Avon,
Randolph, Holbrook and Milton to the north.
